One of Australia’s favourite fast-food chains has come under fire for what customers say are shrinking portion sizes, with some going so far as to measure their meals.

Frustrated Aussies have taken to online forums to discuss whether the chicken pieces at KFC have become unreasonably tinier in size.

A Perth customer whipped out their measuring tape over the weekend to prove that one portion of chicken was less than 6cm long.

“Has anyone noticed KFC Chicken prices are so small?” they posted to Reddit on Saturday.

“There is little to no batter and no taste.

“Chicken today the breast piece was two inches in size and the wings were even smaller.

“Not worth the price.”

Other Aussies quickly flooded the comments to share their own experiences with “shrinkflation”.

“It’s probably from a pigeon,” one person wrote.

“Yep, I’ve noticed they are getting smaller,” said another.

Another user suggested KFC might be cutting chicken breasts in half before selling them as two separate pieces of chicken, which they believed to be the case at Red Rooster.

Others seemed to find that “all major fast food chains” had become a “huge rip off” post-Covid.

“KFC use chickens the size of quails, they definitely do not use full size chickens, never have,” another person wrote.

Most seemed to think “baby chickens” were being used.

“So that’s probably like 1.5 weeks old chicken right?” one person suggested.

This follows similar reports made earlier this year that KFC’s burgers, chips and tenders had also shrunk.

One frustrated customer uploaded a photo of their KFC burger to Reddit in April, claiming “shrinkflation has finally hit KFC”.

“The hardest part is someone decided this was perfectly fine,” they said of the comically small chicken fillet.

“The burgers have shrunk – I had a zinger burger this year for the first time in about ten years, (so) either my hands have doubled in size or there’s some f*ckery going on,” one person wrote.

“Yeah at what point does it stop being a tender and becomes a nugget,” said another.

“I know they’ve been shrinking for a while but this was definitely taking the p*ss lol.”

While some complaints in the past two months have been about the chips becoming “thinner on both sides”, despite costing more, the majority of the heat circled around the size of KFC’s chicken tenders.

“KFC TENDERS ARE NOW COMING FROM A BUDGIE, NOT A CHICKEN,” one disappointed customer wrote in June, comparing their tender to the length of a chip.

“Yep we are being ripped off, they were for sure longer and thicker back when …” one Reddit user replied.

“More like a KFC slender!” said another.

“I refuse to go there anymore, their tenders which used to be huge now look like nuggies.”

KFC said while smaller portions were unusual, it could sometimes occur.

“KFC is proud to offer our customers great tasting chicken at great value,” a spokesperson said.

“We haven’t made any recent changes to reduce the portion size of our chicken, however it is delivered fresh from our suppliers so there can be rare occasions where some cuts of chicken are slightly different sizes.”
